Shameless Plug: The Jams Project
For weeks, I've been looking for a creative outlet... a different way to burn off my creative
energies while trying something new and maybe breaking even the investment of
time and money. Most
of my nifty ideas though, have been done better by my friends.
Jeremy has the 'zine
thing covered, and besides... I did one in high school... Jeremy's efforts would
blow me away and my personal website is more of my own 'zine now anyhow.
I'm not anywhere good as Jess,
Rob, or Andrea
when it comes to art, so much as I like doing cartooning, I wouldn't feel right charging
for anything I could do anyhow.
Then I realized something... I've been doing techno and electronica and tribal/experimental
tracks for years now... but how to put them out, not lose a lot of overhead,
make them artsy and fun, and also, sort of special?
That's were the "Jams" project comes in.
The Jams Project is
comprised of a set of specially colored Mini-CD singles. While the Mini Audio
CDs are physically smaller than a regular sized CD (the singles are about 3
inches in diameter), they'll play in any CD-ROM reader, player or device that can play
CDs, as they fit perfectly inside the inner CD tray.
Each mini CD single is one of five different colors, to correspond with a
flavor: red, blue, orange, purple, and black (corresponding to strawberry,
blueberry, orange, grape, and blackberry, respectively) and are packaged in
matching tinted mini
jewel cases, except for the blackberry single (which is packed in a clear mini
jewel case).
The Jams Project CD singles will share the same five tracks, with each flavor
containing an EXCLUSIVE 6th track not found on any of the other CDs.
The Blueberry Flavored Jams CD single will be limited to a SINGLE, autographed
pressing. It will be made available in an Ebay auction soon. All other flavors
are available here in a limited run, and you can get more information and order
them below.
All CD singles are $3.00 (US), with a $1.00 shipping charge. Each CD is
individually numbered. Please contact
me for shipping rates outside of the USA or Canada.
Flavored Jams Available:
Strawberry Flavored Jams
1. Boom!-- 8 stereo tracks of percussion samples, loops, break beats and drum
solos stacked upon one another to make a chunky wall of thumping drumbeats.
Running time: 3:03
2. Chilled Bells-- Vibraphone, chimes, xylophone riffs all flow together in a soothing and beautiful harmony, overlaid upon a bouncy beat bed. Running time: 4:28
3. Confusion & Commotion-- This is part of a collaboration between myself and users of an old message board I used to run where I asked them to submit the weirdest sound samples they could and challenge me to work it into a listenable mix. I think I succeeded. Running time: 3:24
4. Feverish Club Dub-- Starts off with a literal bang, and doesn't let up until the very end. Typical dance/club work... with a frenzied twist. Running time: 3:42
5.
Here We Go (Virtual Mix)-- This was the first track I'd ever created on my own.
If you have the bass turned up, you'll really feel the drum line. Running time:
2:30
EXCLUSIVE: 6. Press Start-- The baseline and synth work are very heavily
inspired by classic arcade and 8-bit games. I also incorporate samples from NES
and arcade games of yore. If you close your eyes and listen, it's almost like
you're controlling a tiny pixellated hero... and loving every minute of it.
Running time: 1:58

most low tech. I banged and shook almost every tamborine and shaker instrument I
could get my hands on to make a lively, almost folk-ish percussion piece.
Running time: 2:29

his ladies is at. Running Time: 2:29

EXCLUSIVE: 6. Rock On-- This was my first crack at using a
"virtual" turntable program, to see if I could do some serious
scratching with a mouse and steady hand. I think you'll agree that the beats and
audio work I did are rather impressive, even with the laid-back funkiness of the
track as a whole. Running time: 1:58
